A pipe coupling 10, comprises two pipe ends, where each pipe end is encircled by a flange ring 11, 12, a grip ring 14, 14' between the flange ring and a hollow coupling body 13, a seal containment ring 16, 16' between the grip ring and the hollow coupling body, and a sealing ring 17, 17' which is located between the seal containment ring and the hollow coupling body. The flange rings are drawn together by a plurality of tightenable fasteners 21, and each flange ring and its adjacent grip ring define a pair of mutually engageable surfaces, which on tightening of the fasteners, drive each grip ring into gripping engagement with its respective pipe end. A flange adapter may be provided which comprises a flange ring, a grip ring, a seal containment ring, a sealing ring, and an annular flange adapter body (57, fig 4). A grip ring may also be provided which comprises a plurality of grip ring segments (28, fig 7) hingedly secured to one another to form a continuous ring.
