PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a forging method capable of reducing wall thickness deviation of a circular work and improving the manufacturing yield of the circular work when manufacturing the circular work having a circular outer shape by the forging. SOLUTION: When forging a stock having the circular outer shape into the circular work having the circular outer shape by using open-type upper and lower dies 2 and 3, the axis of a ring tool 4 with the diameter d specified by the inequalities D+2E<=d<=D1 ...(1) is agreed with the axis of the die 2 where D is the maximum diameter of the stock, E is the displacement between the axis of the die when the stock is charged and the axis of the stock, and D1 is the mean outside diameter of the material when the rolling-down is 70% of the total rolling-down while a material 1b to be forged is filled inside the ring tool 4, and the ring tool 4 is removed to forge the circular work.
