PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detector for game machine capable of detecting the position of a model moving object on the surface of a track without degrading reality by avoiding making the model moving object look like a toy. SOLUTION: The position detector for the game machine is provided with a mark for positional detection 44 provided on the surface of the model moving object 4 and consisting of infrared luminescent paint emitting an infrared ray having wavelength different from that of an infrared ray with which the mark 44 is irradiated, an infrared emitting means 64 for emitting the infrared ray with which the mark 44 is irradiated and an infrared camera 65 receiving only the infrared ray of the different wavelength emitted from the mark 44. The position detector detects the position of the model moving object 4 on the surface of a track 22 on the basis of a video signal outputted from the camera 65.
