PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drying method which prevents sludge from bunching up together and entangling with agitating vanes, is capable of subjecting the sludge to drying treatment to form the sludge to a dry granular state and is capable of greatly improving working efficiency and shortening the time required for the drying and to provide an equipment for the same. SOLUTION: The drying method comprises feeding and adding polyvalent cation materials including polyaluminum chloride, etc., to materials to be treated and subjecting the materials to post treatment including a drying process step including a drying machine. The drying equipment has the drying machine having a double structure which is internally evacuated to a vacuum and is passed with heating means on its outside. The heating means is passed in this drying machine and the circumference thereof is provided with a revolving shaft having agitating vanes. The drying machine is annexed with an automatic feeding device for a solution of the polyvalent cation materials of the amount precalculated with respect to the feeding amount of the materials to be treated and organic polymer flocculating agent to be fed and added.
