PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position presetting unit for a print mark detecting head capable of automatically regulating a position of the head based on an image width and a mark region. SOLUTION: The position presetting unit for the print mark detecting head provided in a printing unit of a multicolor printer comprises a presetting position arithmetic means, and a detecting head moving means. The arithmetic means calculates the presetting position of the detecting head based on the image width of the width of the image to be printed and the mark region of a region in which the print mark exists. The moving means moves the detecting means in a lateral direction based on the presetting position.
