PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method by which the coating failure in the start of coating does not occur in the coating by a pre-measurement extrusion type coater (slide type coater, extrusion type coater). SOLUTION: In the coating method for applying a coating liquid discharged from a slit of the extrusion type coater on a traveling web, the coating is started after the inside of the slit is physically cleaned by inserting a cleaning member to the inside of the slit before the coating is started and sliding the cleaning member in the coating width direction of the slit while discharging the coating liquid.
