PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake mechanism allowing anybody, particularly, an aged person to perform sudden brake operation at once, and superior in safety and health and design in a pushcart. SOLUTION: This brake mechanism of the pushcart operates or opens a brake body 25 arranged in the vicinity of a wheel by pulling or opening a brake wire 50 by brake operation of a brake operation part 30 arranged on a handle 12. The brake operation part 30 has a cylindrical rotary grip 25 rotatably installed on the outer periphery of a handle shaft, and a wire motion converting means 32 interposed between the handle shaft and a rotary grip 25, connected to one end of the brake wire 50, and pulling or opening the brake wire 50 by normal/reverse rotation operation of the rotary grip 25.
