PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem in a conventional roll machine used at industrial site wherein worker's safety cannot be ensured using a photoelectronic safety device used to stop a roll quickly when a worker approaches the roll excessively in error for the purposes of supplying a sheet material, troubleshooting, and cleaning the roll because this device reacts for not only a human body but also the sheet material. SOLUTION: A safety device for a roll machine is provided with the photoelectronic safety device 1 in which at least one set of a plurality of light projector and light receiver are arranged by opposing to each other, a floating controller 2 for outputting an operation permit signal only when the number of shaded optical axes of the photoelectronic safety device is below a predetermined value, a selector switch 4 for switching operation mode of the roll machine, a rotation speed monitoring device 5 for monitoring a rotation speed and a rotation direction of the roll machine, and a safety distance monitoring device 5 for monitoring that a safety distance of the photoelectronic safety device is above a predetermined value.
