PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for aligning bookbinding sheets having a new arrangement suited for implementation as it is incorporated into an automatic bookbinding device, and providing for the effect of aligning bookbinding sheets uniformly even if the bookbinding sheets differ in thickness. SOLUTION: The device for aligning bookbinding sheets comprises a clamp 20 for clamping a bookbinding sheet A from both sides along its thickness direction; an unclamping means for opening the clamp at an alignment position where the bookbinding sheet clamped is in an approximately upright or inclined condition, a vertically oscillating plate 43 having a lower end supporting surface 43a for supporting the lower end of the bookbinding sheet when it is unclamped by the unclamping means; a vertical vibration generating means 45 for vertically vibrating the bookbinding sheet supported on the lower end supporting surface, by causing the oscillating plate to reciprocate vertically; transverse position regulating means 29 and 30 for regulating the transverse position of the sheet; and horizontal vibration generating means 46 and 47 for vibrating the sheet crosswise.
