PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield gas for arc-welding an aluminum and an aluminum-base alloy excellent in a deep penetration weldability, and an arc- welding method. SOLUTION: In a shield gas used for arc-welding the aluminum and the aluminum-base alloy, nitrogen of 1-40 vol.% is added in a single gas of argon or helium, or in a mixed gas of the argon and the helium.
