A continuous furnace for heat treating metal sheets comprises a spider 4 revolving below a dome-shaped roof 1 and transferring metal sheets step-by-step between a charging rollerway conveyer 6 and a discharging rollerway conveyer 7, the spider comprising coaxial members 34 and 35, Fig. 5, secured to stub shafts 32 and 33 by pins and keys 36, 37 so as to be axially movable with reference to the shafts under the influence of heat. The spider has inverted T-shaped radial carrier arms 5 mounted by pins on bridge members 38 interconnecting the members 34, 35 and secured thereto by pins 39. The shafts 32, 33 are driven by a motor 43 through gearing 44, a shaft 45 and chains 46. The furnace is heated by forced convection of gases produced by burners disposed in ducts 14, 15, 16 and 17, each with its own fan 23, 24, 25 and 26 and outlet port 18, 19, 20 and 21. Intakes for the ducts 14-17 are disposed near door openings for the rollerway conveyers, Fig. 3 (not shown), which are also associated with suction slits creating a protective air curtain in front of the openings. Additional burners 12 heat the space 13 below the spider. |
