PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric vacuum cleaner for which a dust collecting container is sufficiently fixed and the sealing property of the upper opening of the dust collecting container is not lowered even when the tip part of a lid is lifted. SOLUTION: The electric vacuum cleaner is provided with a body case 22 incorporating a motor-driven blower 23 at a rear part, the dust collecting container 40 freely attachably and detachably mounted on the front part of the body case 22 and the lid 60 hinge-connected to the rear part of the body case 22, opened and closed in a vertical direction and covering the upper part of the dust collecting container 40 when closed. The lid 60 is provided with a guiding air path 76 where an intake opening 72 with a sealing member 73 sealing the upper opening 43 of the dust collecting container 40 is formed and the motordriven blower 23 sucks air inside the dust collecting container 40 through the guiding air path 76 of the lid 60. The front side of the sealing member 73 of the lid 60 is locked to the main body case 22 through a locking means.
