PURPOSE: A method for detecting an actuator unlatch of a hard disk drive is provided to execute a stable servo control and prevent a head from being damaged, by directly detecting an unlatched state of the head, and promptly and easily read unlatched and latched states of the head. CONSTITUTION: In a state that a rib(18) of an actuator is connected with a ground part(28) of a hard disk drive main body and an insulated latch is connected with an input terminal of a controller(36), an electric current is applied to a voice coil installed at one side of the actuator. The voice coil generates a torque to separate the rib from the latch, so that a switch is turned off. Power voltage(34) is applied to the controller in a high state control signal through a resistance part(32). The rib of the actuator contacts with the latch for turning on the switch. At this time, the power voltage is grounded and applied to the controller in a low state control signal, so that the actuator represents a latch state.
