PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the trouble that a handle is stopped in a middle in the ON/OFF switching operation process of an external operating handle device and allow a trip display in the stop position of the handle in the trip operation of a circuit breaker. SOLUTION: This external operating handle device 2 comprises the handle 4 provided on a body base 3 and a slide base 5 with a hand arm 5b connected to the handle, wherein the ON/OFF operation of the circuit breaker 1 is performed by rotating the handle 4. A cam part 5 is provided on the end of the slide base 5 having inclined cam faces 5d-1 and 5d-2 corresponding to the OFF side and the ON side formed thereon. Notch mechanisms 7 comprising a roller 7a, a lever 7b, and a compression spring 7c are arranged on both sides of the cam part 5. A slide base is energized in the ON or OFF direction by the pressurizing force of the notch mechanisms to impart a notch function. Further, the inclinationθ2 of the ON-side cam face is set to a gentle angle, and the handle 4 is moved to a trip display position in interlocking with a handle 1e in the tripping operation of the circuit breaker.
