PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend the magnetic field in the direction vertical to the surface of a recording medium, which is generated by a magnetic pole part. SOLUTION: The thin film magnetic head is provided with first and second magnetic layers 8 and 14, a gap layer 9 formed between the first and second magnetic layers 8 and 14, and a thin film coil 10 partially installed between the first and second magnetic layers 8 and 14. The second magnetic layer 14 has a magnetic pole part layer 14A exposed to a medium opposite surface ABS, and a yoke part layer 14B for magnetically interconnecting the magnetic pole layer 14A and the first magnetic layer 8 through a connecting part 14C without being exposed to the medium opposite surface 14A. The yoke part layer 14B is magnetically connected to the surface of the gap layer 9 side of the magnetic pole part layer 14. The end surface of the medium opposite surface ABS side of the yoke part layer 14B is gradually separated from the medium opposite surface ABS further apart from the magnetic pole part layer 14A.
