PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record without interruption at an optimum speed at any time by varying the recording speed accomodatively even when the optimum recording speed of an optical disk varies due to an environmental variation or the like. SOLUTION: A maximum recording speed Vlmax is derived by performing an OPC recording at a plurality of recording speeds on an optical disk 1. A recording position in the radial direction of the optical disk 1 is detected, a revolution of the optical disk 1 at which the linear speed of the optical disk 1 becomes the maximum recording speed Vlmax at the recording position is calculated and the revolution is used as set revolution. The actual revolution of the optical disk 1 is detected and data are recorded on the optical disk 1 while so controlling the revolution of the optical disk 1 that the detected actual revolution becomes the calculated set revolution. Normal/abnormal recording operation on the optical disk 1 at the maximum recording speed Vlmax is monitored and the maximum recording speed is lowered by a specified valueΔv1 when an abnormal recording operation is detected.
