ONBOARD EQUIPMENT FOR FARE COLLECTING SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide onboard equipment where an operation for extracting and inserting an IC card is eliminated when onboard equipment is used and when use is terminated and the user of onboard equipment is prevented from forgetting to extract or insert the IC card. SOLUTION: Onboard equipment is divided into an installation part fixed to a vehicle and a portable part which a passenger carries. The IC card is inserted into the portable part. The installation part and the portable part have short range communication means which can communicate in a short distance such as that within a vehicle. When the passenger carries the portable part and gets on the vehicle, the installation part can read and write the content of the IC card by using the short range communication means. Thus, the operation for extracting/inserting the IC card from/into onboard equipment is made unnecessary and the extraction/insertion of the IC card is prevented from being forgotten.
