The digital word packet transfer system has nodes with switches identifying packet transmission. Either a broadcast or point to point packet may be received. Where the packet transmitted is a broadcast package, if all the broadcast connections are free broadcast packets are broadcast simultaneously to all broadcast connections until all transmissions are finished. If the broadcast connections are not free, broadcasting is to all the links which are free simultaneously until all transmission are completed.
