PHOTOGRAPH EXTRACTION METHOD, DEVICE, PROGRAM, AND RECORDING MEDIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for extracting individual images from a medium stored in a holder having an image holding area and a program for instructions. SOLUTION: A photograph extraction technology which scans the film put in the holder so designed as to contain a film of specific size and a specific type to make a low-resolution scan of the film and holder is provided. Then, the border of the holder is detected through the low-resolution scan and a smoothing filter is applied to detect the edge segment of the image holding area in the holder; and individual image holding areas are discriminated to determine the directions of those image holding areas and correct the directions at need, and individual photographs in the image holding areas are found. When a photograph is discriminated and extracted, an index page having its thumbnail image is generated. A user can select one or more images to be printed or displayed with high resolution from the page.
