PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader with which high output can be provided in a CCD and a high picture quality can be provided. SOLUTION: In the image reader with which the image light of an original image illuminated by an optical illumination system is formed through an optical image forming system onto a read means and the image is read, the optical illumination system is composed of a plurality of light sources (xenon lamps 10A and 10B) having different beam split distributions.
