A control system (10) receives a temperature signal (TF) from a temperature sensor (11) contained in a housing (13). The control system determines the effective temperature (Ti) as a function of the signal (TF) and the surface temperature (To) of the housing (13).. The temperature of the surface is determined by a unit which uses a former value from the temperature sensor (11) which is recorded in its memory. The surface temperature measuring unit, which includes a timer, is connected to sensors and other devices providing values for cooling water temperature, air spread, incident solar radiation, exterior temperature, temperature sensor heating by lamps or power loss effects. A controlled blower directs airflow around the sensor (11).
