PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas discharge lamp having a phosphor-coating film containing a low-energy level conversion phosphor, having a means for starting and maintaining a gas discharge, having a gas discharge tube filled with a gas suitable for generating VUV rays, and having a broadened color spectrum. SOLUTION: This gas discharge lamp has a phosphor-coating film containing the low-energy level conversion phosphor, a means starting and maintaining the gas discharge, and the gas discharge tube filled with the gas suitable for emitting VUV rays. In the low-energy level conversion phosphor, a host lattice contains a pair of active components composed of first lanthanoid ions and second lanthanoid ions, and a coactive component composed of a third lanthanoid.
