PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a permanent magnet which can provide balanced attracting force and repulsive force of a magnet in the fixed side of a rotary drive apparatus and a propulsive force in the rotating direction of a rotating body and also assures easier fixing to a magnet mounting tool. SOLUTION: A shut-out area of rotary drive can be substantially eliminated, because magnets 121, 131 in the rotating side do not receive any influence of polar points of a magnet 111 in the fixed side when such magnets are moving toward the longitudinal direction of the magnet 111 in the fixed side, by using, as the magnet 111 in the fixed side of the rotary drive apparatus, a permanent magnet where a rod type magnet of which magnetization direction is orthogonal to the longitudinal direction of rod type body is twisted for 30 to 180 degrees at the center area in the longitudinal direction and one end part of the rod type body is formed thinner than the other end part.
