PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface acoustic wave element that has enhanced temperature stability while keeping a large electromechanical coupling coefficient. SOLUTION: The surface acoustic wave element is characterized in that interdigital electrodes are formed on the surface of a piezoelectric substrate to stimulate a surface acoustic wave, a recessed part is formed on a rear side of the piezoelectric substrate corresponding to the region on which the interdigital electrodes are formed, and a low expansion member is formed in the recessed part.
