PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a PPP termination device, which realizes high-speed processing of LCP echo processing through hardware control, a network device, and to provide a method of answering the request for LCP echo. SOLUTION: The PPP termination device 100, which terminates a PPP link connected to a switch fabric, is equipped with an LCP echo request detector 20 which detects whether or not a received packet is an LCP echo request packet, and an LCP echo answer generator 40, which generates an answer packet to the LCP echo request concerned, by rewriting the LCP header of the received LCP echo request packet, and this device generates an answer packet to the LCP echo request concerned and gives a reply.
