PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a numerically controlled machine tool having a control shaft whose operation path is the reciprocating motion of a single shaft and a method for controlling this machine tool. SOLUTION: The relation of the moving distance and operating time from the operation start point of the control shaft of a numerically controlled machine tool is expressed by a smoothed curve, preferably, a Beiger curve so that the curve slope of the moving distance to the operating time can be set so as to be almost 0 at the operation start point or operation end point. The degree of freedom of the Beiger curve is made high, and the number of control points is made small so that it is possible to facilitate measures against any failure to be generated in a product to be worked by the numerical control machine tool as necessary.
