PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a matrix electron source allowing the arrangement of multiple electron sources while heightening yield. SOLUTION: This matrix electron source is provided with an electron source chip 11 with electron source elements 10 for radiating electron beams, arranged on one face of an insulating substrate 12. The other face of the insulating substrate is provided with pad electrodes electrically connected to the electron source elements 10. A plurality of electron source chips 11 are mounted to a base plate 21 provided with row selection wiring 22 and column selection wiring 23, and the pad electrodes are connected to the row selection wiring 22 and column selection wiring 23.
