PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanner unit capable of transmitting image data by means of an e-mail even though image data size read when scanning and transmission of the e-mail are performed is large. SOLUTION: The scanner unit is comprised of a reading means 2 reading an image and generating the image data, a compressed means 3 compressing the image data and generating compressed data, a storage means 4 once storing the compressed data, an image capacity adjusting means 5 generating the image data for transmission by adjusting image capacity of the compressed data, and a transmitting means 6 transmitting the image data for transmission adjusted image capacity by the image capacity adjusting means 5 as an attached file of the e-mail.
