PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission message setting method by which a transmission message can easily be re-inputted in the case of the setting work of the transmission message to a portable telephone set provided with an automatic answering function. SOLUTION: The transmission message is set by the following steps. Namely, at a step S15, voice input of a message by an operator is waited. When voice input occurs, the work is shifted from the step S15 to a step S16 to read message data corresponding to the message voice-inputted from a microphone and this is stored in a message register M temporarily. At a step S17, it is asked whether to set data inputted with voice as transmission message data by displaying on a display part for a fixed time. When an operator desires to cancel the input message to input a message again, a prescribed key is operated within the fixed time. When the operation is made, it is detected by a step S18 to return to the step S15 and the similar processing is repeated thereafter.
