A breather device for speed−change devices adapted to communicate the space in a speed−changer case(1)with the open air,comprising a vent port(10)formed at a position longitudinally deviated from an intermediate position,particularly the axial middle position,in the top of the speed−changer case axially of the case,the vent port being opened to the open air through a vent means(2)extending in the direction opposite to the direction of deviation.Thereby,the combination of the longitudinal deviation of the position of the vent port from the longitudinal middle portion of the speed−changer case and the direction of vent means facing opposite to that direction ensures that when the vent port position is tilted in a direction away from the oil level,the front of the vent means lowers and that,reversely,when the vent port position is tilted in a direction toward the oil level,the front of the vent means rises;thus,the occurrence of breathing is prevented for both the forward tilt and the rearward tilt of the speed−changer axis.
