<p>An aligning agent varnish for liquid crystals, which considerably influences especially the display characteristics of a liquid-crystal display element. It has improved properties so as to have an excellent total balance among liquid-crystal alignment properties, electrical properties, etc. It is characterized by containing a polyamic acid obtained from tetracarboxylic acids comprising as essential ingredients at least one tetracarboxylic acid having a tetracarboxylic acid residue represented by the formula (1) and cyclohexanetetracarboxylic dianhydride. A liquid-crystal display element produced with the aligning agent varnish, which contains the compound, eliminates the problems.</p> |
