Aliphatic compounds represented by the following general formula I, stereoisomers thereof or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof and utilization of the same in preventing or treating diseases in association with the agonism of PPAR (peroxisome proliferator−activated receptor) ϝ and &agr; or lipid metabolism (hyperlipemia (hypercholesterolemia), etc.), circulatory diseases (arteriosclerosis, etc.) and diabetes (in particular, type II diabetes (NIDDM)): I wherein R represents optionally substituted CH3CnH(2n−2m)− (wherein n is an integer of from 16 to 22; and m represents an unsaturation number which is an integer of from 2 to 7); l is an integer of from 0 to 10; and RA represents hydrogen or linear or branched C1−10 alkyl.
