The tool for folding workpieces (2,3) effects the prefolding of an edged plate and final folding in one work process. The tool (8) is a combination unit for pre- and final folding, with a single stage and preferably straight folding stroke. It has a concavely bent folding surface (11), the curvature radius of which is greater than the radius of the fold bend. Over its length, are variable forms and arrangements of the folding surface. The folding surface is so curved, that in the contact area with the flange (4) is a preferable effective angle of 14 to 30 degrees, between the normals of the extent direction of the flange and the tangent to the curvature of the folding surface.
