The invention relates to a chain saw, comprising a housing (1) and a saw sword (3) projecting from the housing. According to the invention, at least one mounting element is arranged in the housing. Said mounting element can be mounted to hold at least one holding element arranged in the object (5) to be sawn in such a way that the saw sword can be pivoted approximately in the saw cutting plane. The risk of injury due to the saw chain circulating on the saw sword is minimized when said saw chain is used.
