A method for producing a copolymer, wherein a macromonomer composition and a vinyl monomer having a hydrogen atom at the &agr;−position thereof are reacted at a temperature ranging from −20 to 150˚C in the presence of an organic solvent or under a solvent−free condition, the macromonomer composition comprising a macromonomer which has been produced by polymerizing a vinyl monomer having an acryloyl group in a high monomer concentration such that the sum of the monomer and the polymer is contained in the polymerization reaction mixture at 50 mass % or more and at a high polymerization temperature of 180 to 350˚C; a copolymer produced by using the method; a cured product and a coating film prepared from the copolymer. The copolymer has a broad molecular weight distribution or is prone to forming a gel, and accordingly is suitable as a coating agent capable of being cured by a radical polymerization.
