<p>An optical fiber preform having optical fibers with characteristic variation suppressed in longitudinal direction and a method of manufacturing the optical fiber preform, the optical fiber preform comprising a core part and a clad par; the method comprising the steps of measuring the distribution of refractive index of a glass rod forming the half-finished product of the optical fiber preform and having a part of the core part and the clad part, calculating, from the measured values, the thickness of the entire clad part of the targeted optical fiber preform, forming, based on the calculated values, the remaining clad part on the glass rod, and polishing a part of the remaining clad part or stacking an additional clad part on the remaining clad part.</p> |
