A blood dialysis apparatus whereby blood dialysis is carried out by controlling the dialysis conditions with the use of blood volume (BV) or blo od volume change as an indication level (hereinafter sometimes referred to as blood indication level), characterized in that the blood dialysis is carried out under dialysis conditions determined by defining the course of the targe t blood indication level with the passage of time as a target control line, measuring the blood indication level at each measurement point (controlling point) in the course with the passage of time, and calculating the dialysis conditions so that the blood indication level at the next measurement point (controlling point) attains the target level with the use of the blood indication level measured above and the target blood indication level at the next measurement point (controlling point). This apparatus has a simple control mechanism and suffers from little risk of misoperation or out-of- control. An operator can easily handle it and the control can be quickly and precisely carried out. Thus, an excellent effect of appropriately shifting blood volume during the blood dialysis can be established.
