A brake device of an elevator hoist, wherein an elastically deformable distance holding member (21) for holding a distance between a brake shoe (15) and a drum (8b) when a brake is released is installed between a brake arm (14) and the brake shoe (15), whereby the distance holding member (21) restricts the rotation of the brake shoe (15) when the brake is released and, when the brake is applied, allows the rotation of the brake shoe (15) by deforming elastically.
