METHOD FOR COMMUNICATING AUDIO DATA IN A PACKET SWITCHED NETWORK

A tunneling address translation engine (36) enables a Internet protocol packet audio conversation to be maintained between two client devices (14). At least one of the client devices (14) may be behind a firewall (28) or behind a network address translation, or proxy server (38). The tunneling address translation engine (36) routes frames of audio data to an intended destination utilizing unreliable data protocols which do not include source address information. An audio conversation may be maintained through a sequence of tunneling address translation engines (36).
