A structural apparatus and method is provided that utilizes novel construction diaphragms to construct walls. The construction diaphragms each include a core comprised of one or more ribbed sheet metal panels 12. The construction diaphragms are formed by securing expanded polystyrene (EPS) rigid insulation panels 18 to the interior and exterior sides of the ribbed sheet metal panels 12. On the exterior side of the wall, exterior siding 26, such as cementaceous siding is secured to the wall. A moisture barrier 24 is positioned between the insulation panel 18 and the exterior siding 26. On the interior side of the wall, interior siding 28, such as gypsum board, is secured to the wall. Where desired, electrical boxes 32 may be placed in the walls by positioning the boxes 32 in indentations formed in the ribbed sheet metal panels 12. |
