<p>A power inverter comprising series capacitors for dividing a DC voltage and PWM inverter bridges for converting a DC voltage into an AC phase voltage having three potentials, i.e., a positive voltage, a negative voltage, and intermediate voltage by using the connection node of the capacitors, wherein when an overcurrent detector (12) detects that a load current reaches a first overcurrent level, a zero voltage period generator (11) is selected by means of signal selectors (5-10) so as to provide a zero voltage period of the intermediate voltage when the output phase voltages of all the phases of the power inverter are the intermediate voltage and thereby to carry out current limitation, and whereby an abruptly increasing current of the inverter during overcurrent detection is instantly suppressed by an inexpensive structure.</p> |
