A digital camera (10) includes an SDRAM (26). When 40 frames of image signal is stored in the SDRAM (26), a merged file containing the 40−frame image signal is created in a data area of a magneto−optical disk (36), and FAT information on the merged file is written in an FAT area of the magneto−optical disk (36). When a predetermined condition is met, the image data in the merged file is read one frame by one, and an image file containing the read image data is created in the data area of the magneto−optical disk (36). The FAT information on the image file is written in the FAT area of the magneto−optical disk (36). The operation is repeated 40 times, and thereafter the merged file is deleted.
