PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charging member which realizes low resistance with a small amount of an ion electroconductive agent added, can inhibit increase in electrical resistance when energized and causes no image troubles. SOLUTION: The charging member comprises a material containing as an ion electroconductive agent a quaternary ammonium salt represented by general formula (1) (wherein R<1> -R<4> are each an alkyl group, at least one of them being different from the others and at least one of them being a 4-8C alkyl group; X<n-> is an n-valent anion; and n is an integer of 1-6).
