PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain unvulcanized rubber having a reduced bubble content by mixing and extruding it in a nonflammable gas such as helium. SOLUTION: In a method for processing an elastomer composition, the entrainment of bubbles is reduced by processing the composition in a nonflammable gas. The permeation coefficient for the gas of the composition is larger than that for air.
