PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for setting an elevator to a apartment house, which facilitates change of the apartment house to a barrier-free apartment house, and can eliminate or drastically alleviate a problem of moving of residents. SOLUTION: According to the method, an elevator retrofitting structure 2 including an elevator 21 stopping at each story, and stairs 22 connecting between adjacent stories, is set at a location in proximity to a landing of a staircase in the apartment house 1. Thereafter, a removing step of removing existing stairs in the staircase, which connect a story to a story below the same, is carried out. Then, a floor surface connecting step of horizontally connecting floor surfaces 41 of the elevator retrofitting structure 2, on a second story or above, to floor surfaces 31 of the existing building portion, on the respective stories, via respective bridges 51, is carried out. Preferably, these steps are carried out story by story.
