PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an actuator in which the yield can be enhanced furthermore. SOLUTION: The driving signal of an ink jet recorder, an example of actuator, includes an ejection element 18 varying from an expansion potential VPS to a contraction potential VLS and contracting a pressure chamber in an expanded state to eject an ink drop, a second hold element 19 for holding the pressure chamber in a contracted state by keeping the contraction potential, and a damping element 20 varying from the contraction potential to an intermediate potential Vm and resetting the pressure chamber held in a contracted state by the second hold element to a normal state wherein the sum of the applying time pwd1 of the ejection element and the applying time pwh2 of the second hold element is equalized to the eigen frequency period Tc of the cavity.
