The emergency power cylinder (1), designed to assist the opening of an aircraft cabin door against the force of gravity, is operated by gas from a cartridge (16) and incorporates an annular chamber (19) surrounding an air outlet (18) in the cylinder wall. The chamber has a release valve (20) linked to a control unit (21) that governs the release of air and of the gas used to drive the cylinder's piston (12) after the piston has passed the outlet.
