PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent dust originating in components from contaminating a surface treatment liquid in a surface treatment tank. SOLUTION: The surface treatment apparatus, which has a carrying means 30 for carrying a workpiece W held by a holder 20 through the holder 20 supported by a guide rail 37 installed along a carrying direction, and which can treat the surface while continuously carrying the workpiece W in the surface treatment tank 10, comprises arranging the guide rail 37 and the carrying means 30 outside of an upper opening 10U of the surface treatment tank 10, the holder 20 so as to be supported by the guide rail 37 at the end 21K, and the tip 23S of the holder so as to determine the position of the center in the orthogonal direction to the carrying direction along the surface treatment tank 10, and to hold the workpiece W at the position.
