[Also in Group XXX] A guide roller for correcting wander of endless bands, e.g. felts, cloths and screens in papermaking machines has a stationary bearing at one end, and at the other, a bearing housing 8 which is pivotally connected by arms 20, 21 (Fig. 2) at 17 to a hollow frame 3 adjustably secured to the main frame 1 of the paper machine. The bearing housing 8 is acted upon by servomotors 4, 5 of piston or diaphragm type articulately connected to it at 18, 19, the arrangement being such that the line of force (i.e. axis) of each servomotor includes with the arms 20, 21 (when bearing housing 8 is centrally disposed) an angle of not less than 30 degrees and less than 90 degrees, preferably 60 degrees. In servomotor 4 a piston 23 is moved against a return spring 29 by air pressure which is supplied through flexible line 31 and which is responsive to means detecting the wander of the band, whilst in servomotor 5 a roller diaphragm 26 takes the place of the piston. The servomotors 4, 5 are pivotally mounted at 15, 16 in cavities 6, 7 sealed by sleeves 9, 10 and end covers 13, 14. Exhaust air escapes through apertures 33, 33a, 34. |
