PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side groove forming device capable of forming a groove on a side face of a work with the work fixed surely even if the cross section of the work is like a thin plate. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a table 2, on which the work 9 is placed, a first positioning member 5, which positions the work 9 placed on the table 2 in its width direction with a side face 9a of the work 9 abutting on the member 5 and can retract from the work 9, a work fixing means 7, which fixes the work 9 to the table 2 by pressing the top of the work 9 positioned on the table 2, and a cutter device 8, which is arranged on a side of the table 2 and provided with a cutter 20 to form a groove in the side face 9a of the work while moving along the side face 9a of the work 9 in the side groove forming device 1, which forms a groove in at least the side face 9a of the thin plate-shaped work 9.
